Ruzyne Airport will become Vaclav Havel Airport Prague

On October 5, Ruzyne Airport Will Become Vaclav Havel Airport Prague

In keeping with a resolution by the government of the Czech Republic, Prague/Ruzyne International Airport will be renamed Vaclav Havel Airport Prague. The formal name change is scheduled for October 5, Havel’s birthday.
The English version of the airport's name was chosen after consultation with language experts. It will be used to mark airport buildings, etc., because of the airport's international role.
The Czech equivalent, Letiste Vaclava Havla Praha, selected in consultation with Czech language specialists at the Academy of Sciences of the CR, will be used to communicate with the Czech public, in articles and press releases about the airport, airport reports and for transport markings.
Prague Airport is currently making preparations for the renaming, including modifying the airport logo and readying changes to the markings on buildings, press materials, reports, etc. “We discussed the concept for adopting Vaclav Havel’s name for the international airport with Dagmar Havel, as well as with a representative of the Ministry of Transportation and with Fero Fenic, who came up with the idea of renaming the airport," said Letiste Praha CEO Jiri Pos. He added: “I'm happy to say our notions of how to carry out this significant change were in complete agreement."
Transport Minister Pavel Dobes says the name change is being made to recognize the significance role Vaclav Havel played in the Czech Republic and his legacy: “I'm personally very happy that we have been able, along with our partners, to rename the Ruzyne Airport Vaclav Havel Airport Prague.”
